Rirkrit Tiravanija, thaïlandais, est né en 1961 à Buenos Aires (Argentine)

Il vit et travaille entre Berlin, New-York et Chang Mai (Thaïlande).

Consécration , il reçoit en 2004 le Prix Hugo Boss.

Depuis le début des années 90, Rirkrit Tiravanija est la grande figure d’un art qui, prenant appui sur le réel, réclame la participation active du spectateur.
Cet artiste profondément nomade crée ses installations sur le lieu de l’exposition renouvelant le genre de la performance à travers le quotidien .

Sa démarche manifeste, par ailleurs, une relation étroite à l’architecture, comme espace de pensée, d’action et de discussion : reconstitution d’un supermarché au Migros Museum de Zürich, réplique de son appartement de New York ouvert au public 24h/24 à la Kunstverein de Cologne Untitled 1996 (tomorrow is another day), de la maison de l’architecte Rudolph Schindler de Los Angeles à la Sécession de Vienne Untitled 2002 (he promised), d’une salle de répétitions de musiciens au Consortium de Dijon Untitled 1996 (rehearsal studio n.6)
